The International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) is the world's champion for the power of plants. The leading role of city authorities is recognised for promoting and supporting greater inclusion of nature and plants in urban environments. The AIPH World Green City Awards is an ongoing competition, with entries open every 2 years, allowing approximately 18 months from the call for entries to the awards ceremony. Cities are invited to enter, and the winners are announced at special gala event awards ceremonies. The Awards are designed to champion ambitious nature-orientated approaches to city design and operation.

Specifically, the Awards recognise public initiatives relying on a greater use of plants and nature to create better city environments–helping to fulfil local aspirations for improved economic, social and environmental resilience.TheAwards celebrate innovation, achievement, and commitment to the globally recognised imperative to embrace nature-based solutions that harvest the power of plants and associated ecosystems services to help address the major challenges facing cities today–or tomorrow. AIPH initiated these awards to bring wide recognition to the value of plants in providing solutions for common city problems and to create an enabling environment to shape and nurture a strategic shift in city governance and planning.AIPH invites all cities, large and small, to showcase their ambitious actions by entering the2022 edition of theAIPH World Green City Awards

Through our Green City Programme, we promote the essential role of plants in creating vibrant urban areas and aim to develop an international standard for green cities as well as being a focal point for green city best practice and a source of expertise. We lead global thinking on the successful integration of nature into the built environment by supporting the bold and ambitious actions of local governments. We aim to inspire a global movement of local governments who are champions of nature-orientated approaches to building greener, healthier, and more liveable cities that are fit for the future. By transforming cities into places where humans and nature can thrive harmoniously, we create an enabling environment for urban initiatives which demonstrate the multiple benefits that plants and nature provide in response to the many challenges cities currently face, thereby contributing to sustaining our planet, for this generation and the next.

Through world activities, research and marketing, and shared resources we seek to inspire people, organisations, city councils and government administrations to join this challenging movement and reap the benefits.

As an organisation, we strive for a world in which humanity, technology, and nature exist in a healthy and stable equilibrium. By achieving this we will build a balanced and prosperous future for all, sustaining the planet for this generation and the next. Our mission is clearer than ever: to reignite and uphold an appreciation of plants that we believe is a basic human instinct.

We support and promote the work of our members – the grower organisations around the world who together form our proud AIPH community. Through the expertise and energy they give to horticulture, they embody everything that we stand for. Our members consist of thousands of growers of flowers and ornamental plants around the world who are together united by one essential goal – promoting the place of plants in people’s lives.
