Prof. Dr. Iris Belle is the dean of studies and teaches at the International Master Programme Smart City Solutions.
She holds a PhD in Geography from Heidelberg University and a Diploma in Architecture from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. From 2019–2022 she developed digital and sustainable concepts for cities and neighborhoods for public and private clients as Leading Consultant at Drees & Sommer. From 2016–19, Iris researched innovations in architecture and urban planning and taught design studio as an Assistant Professor (tenure track) at Tongji University, Shanghai. From 2011–15, she was a postdoctoral researcher at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ) and at the Future Cities Lab Singapore. Prior, Iris has worked as architectural designer with gmp – von Gerkan, Marg und Partner Architekten and AREP in Beijing, China, and has conceptualized events for best practice exchange and internationalization for the Beijing Architectural Design Institute.
She is also a member of the Federal Association of Smart City Germany e.V. and ICOMOS Singapore. She is a registered architect with the Chamber of Architects of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg.
Iris is a curious mind and looking for leaders from industry, research & development, and municipal administration keen to serve as mentors and roled models for her international students. She welcomes offers for master thesis topics and is curious for any information that helps her in updating the Smart City Solutions curriculum and teaching methods.
