In April 2018, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 3rd  World Bicycle Day, recognising the uniqueness, longevity and versatility of the bicycle.

As cities around the world continue to grapple with traffic congestion, air pollution, and climate change, the bicycle has emerged as an accessible, eco-friendly, and healthy alternative to traditional modes of transportation. Cycling not only reduces greenhouse gas emissions and promotes cleaner air but also encourages physical activity, which can help combat sedentary lifestyles and prevent chronic diseases. Additionally, the expansion of cycling infrastructure, such as bike lanes and bike-sharing programs, can contribute to more equitable and connected communities.
