The triennial World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders convened by United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) will be held on 11-15 November in Durban, South Africa. The World Summit represents an opportunity for mayors, presidents of associations, councillors, and local and regional practitioners from around the world to present their solutions to the major challenges felt across the globe. It also provides the participants the opportunity to strategize on initiatives to support the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The session co-organized by the City of Berlin, UCLG Learning and Metropolis will focus on the “digitalization of international networking”. The use platform will be represented by Thomas Honeck, project officer at Berlin Senate Chancellery. It will be presented as an example of digital tools that facilitate decentralized learning processes and joint policy making.
While the use-platform focuses on the exchange of very practical experiences in sustainable urban development, representatives from UCLG Learning will present their Peer Learning Notes methodology that encourages the transfer of knowledge, skills and experience from one municipality to others by fostering a peer leaning and support environment.
A joint discussion will include Kate Joseph from the City of Johannesburg, who will provide insights into her experience using digital tools, collecting data, and her observations of the impact of international networking.
