Meritxell Martell, PhD in Environmental Sciences from the University of East Anglia (Norwich, United Kingdom, 2001) is the founding director of Merience SCP, a consultancy company focused on the analysis and development of communication stakeholder involvement strategies in the field of complex socio-technical processes, such as siting of energy facilities. She has over 15 years’ experience as international consultant on communication and stakeholder engagement in complex environmental decision-making processes. Prior to founding Merience, she was group leader for environmental communication at Amphos 21 Consulting (formerly Enviros Spain). She graduated in environmental sciences at the University Autonoma of Barcelona (UAB). Her PhD thesis was in the field of public participation, sustainability and Local Agenda 21 processes.  

She currently co-ordinates and works in different European and international projects concerning governance in energy transition processes in metropolitan areas (MEGA project with Barcelona, Lyon and Montevideo metropolis partly funded by Metropolis), implementation of renewables and energy efficiency in rural communities (COMPOSE Interreg project) or integrating social sciences and humanities in teaching about energy in engineering at higher educational institutions (TEACHENER Erasmus + project), to name a few. She also co-ordinated the Metropolis funded initiative Climate Metropole + project with the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, Grand Lyon and Liverpool Region.
