My name is Harrison Barrett. I am a Master of Urban Management and Planning (Geography and Urban Studies) at Western Sydney University. My previous degree involved travelling to the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences and the Gdańsk University of Technology to study in the "Creating Resilient Cities" six-month exchange program in Q1-2 of 2023.
My research focus is on the Dutch concept of designing for 'Autoluw' or 'nearly car-free' / 'car-less' in new and emerging urban environments with a focus on the emerging city of Bradfield located in Western Sydney. I am working on understanding and developing a research thesis based on the intersectional nature of Placemaking that is embedded into systems of community governance and Human Rights.
Currently I work as a Para Planner for the Bradfield Development Authority (July 2024) working to provide Planning advice and deliver Bradfield City Centre. This role also involves investment attraction and statutory compliance with the NSW Planning System and goals of the New City Deal (March 2018) in the Western Sydney Aerotropolis. Previously I have worked for the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure [DPHI] within their Studnet Internship Program as a Student Planner.
