SDG City Awards

The SDG City Awards is the annual awards program of the Urban SDG Knowledge Platform. Led by key partners CityNet, Seoul Metropolitan Government and UN ESCAP, the program has been running since 2022 to promote knowledge sharing of innovative best practices in sustainable urban development in the Asia Pacific region. Each year, the judge panel selects new competition categories from in-demand urban issues to spur applicants to contribute policies and practices on the most pressing problems cities are facing. Temporary partners may join the panel in a given year to lend their expertise on certain priority thematic categories. In line with the mission of the Platform, the submitted practices are evaluated by how well they localize the Sustainable Development Goals in local urban contexts. Winning practices are also judged highly likely to be successfully replicated in cities in the region. Overall, the awards seek to celebrate cities and shine a spotlight on the work that actors at the local government level do to make cities sustainable, inclusive, and more livable. Typically held in the fourth quarter, the awards ceremonies are opportunities for urban stakeholders to connect and share knowledge to improve the planning and management of cities.
