World Metropolitan Day, a global day of celebration led by Metropolis and UN-Habitat, is observed annually on the 7th of October in the framework of Urban October. This day serves as a commemoration of the adoption of the Montréal Declaration of Metropolitan Areas (2015) and provides a global platform that unites metropolises from around the world.
In 2023, World Metropolitan Day focuses on the theme "The Power of Nature in our Metropolises". This theme aims to highlight the transformative impact of nature-based solutions in improving the resilience, inclusiveness and liveability of urban spaces.
At the 14th Metropolis World Congress, it was announced that Marmara Municipalities Union will host World Metropolitan Day 2023 in Istanbul.
