World Metropolitan Day is a global day of celebration led by Metropolis and CIPPEC. The 2019 edition focusses on the localization of the SDGs at metropolitan level and leaders of local governments are encouraged to come together today and discuss strategies for sustainable city making.

World Metropolitan Day also marks the anniversary of the Montréal Declaration of Metropolitan Areas (2015) for building more inclusive and interdependent metropolitan areas in addition to mechanisms for implementation.
