Women at the Table

© 2025 Women at the Table

Women at the Table is a pioneering feminist think tank founded in 2015 and based in Switzerland, focused on systems change and institutional transformation. As a pioneering think tank, they don't just analyse digital infrastructure and feminist AI, they actively construct it, with a mission to forge technology that elevates human dignity, gender equality, and eradicates bias. Women at the Table leads a feminist ecosystem powering inclusive digital public infrastructure through three interconnected platforms: Women at the Table for strategic systems change, the A+ Alliance global coalition for algorithmic justice, and the AI & Equality Initiative offering practical tools.

Their approach centres historically excluded voices in the design and governance of digital systems, bridges the implementation gap between human rights principles and technical development, and creates participatory pathways for communities to shape the technologies that affect their lives. Founded in 2019, the A+ Alliance has worked to ensure that women and girls in all their intersections and forms are included in the creation and governance of algorithmic systems that increasingly shape our world. The A+ Alliance is now co-led by Women at the Table and Code for Africa, which employs approximately 140 full-time permanent staff in 26 African countries and operates in three international languages.

The AI & Equality Initiative provides audit frameworks, design checklists, testing methodologies, and implementation guides that developers, policymakers, and organizations can use immediately to build equitable AI systems, translating vision into action by offering concrete tools to embed feminist human rights-based principles and intersectional thinking into the design and governance of algorithmic systems. This isn't theoretical work happening in academic silos—they've operationalized these principles across global institutions, UN policy forums, and technical implementation labs, proving that another way is not only possible, but practical.
