USE:POSITIONS with Alexandra Beweis

"We started out by asking children and young people of Vienna to think about their city. But in the end, the City started to think about their children and young people!“

Werkstatt Junges Wien (Young Vienna Workshop) is the largest participation project involving children and young people developed and implemented by the City of Vienna. The project’s main objective was to create a cross-sectoral strategy based on ideas, suggestions, and priorities expressed by young Viennese. Since February 2019, more than 1,300 workshops with over 22,580 children and young people have been carried out.

On 24th June 2020, the strategy was adopted by Vienna City Council and became a binding commitment for the whole city. The project was among the winners of the 5th Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation (2021).

In the interview, Alexandra Beweis, who is part of the team organising the workshops, talks about he project’s unique approach and  the positive outcomes.
