Every October, UN-Habitat and partners organise a month of activities, events, and discussions on urban sustainability, offering people around the world a chance to engage in the critical conversation about the future of our cities and towns.
The 2024 edition of Urban October focuses on young people's role in shaping sustainable urban futures. It commenced with World Habitat Day on October 7, themed "Engaging youth to create a better urban future" and will conclude with World Cities Day on October 31, highlighting "Youth leading climate and local action for cities."
With over 1.2 billion young people (15-24) globally, their potential to drive urban innovation is immense. As the next generation of leaders, innovators, and change-makers, young people are at the heart of creating sustainable, inclusive, and resilient cities for all.
Through various events and discussions, Urban October invites global participation to explore how young people are driving positive change in cities worldwide, addressing key issues of climate action, sustainability, inclusivity, and resilience.
