The Bay Awards, organized by Bilbao Metropoli 30, brought together more than 300 experts and institutional representatives from around the world, along with over 6,000 online participants from more than 200 countries, to recognise innovative urban projects worldwide in its first edition. With over 100 entries submitted, the awards were presented in five categories:
- Urban Pioneers: Curitiba, Brazil, won for its commitment to human-scale urban planning.
- Prosperity Catalyst: South Africa's Social Employment for the Common Good project, promoting employability through social projects.
- SDG Champion: Bogotá, Colombia's "Care Blocks" project, addressing care work and urban inequalities.
- Horizon Shaper: Singapore's dementia-friendly neighbourhoods initiative, supporting aging in place.
- Partners in Progress: Detroit's Cultural District, USA, combining urban planning with cultural management.
The Bay Awards aim to showcase and celebrate good urban practices globally, serving as inspiration for other cities. Over 100 projects were submitted, which will be included in a repository published by Bilbao Metropoli 30.
