International Day of People with Disability (IDPD) is held on 3 December each year. The annual observance was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3. The Day aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions.
Disability inclusion is an essential condition to upholding human rights, sustainable development, and peace and security. It is also central to the promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to leave no one behind.
Each year the UN announces a theme to observe for International Day of People with Disability. The theme provides an overarching focus on how society can strive for inclusivity through the removal of physical, technological and attitudinal barriers for people with disability.
The theme for IDPWD 2022 is 'Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world’.
