Event Report: 5th UCLG Culture Summit 2023

Ogham is an ancient Celtic script consisting of straight lines carved on stones or wood. The event organizers have chosen the Ogham word for Culture to represent our guarantee as a place of culture in global debates on sustainable development.

From November 28 to December 1, 2023, the City of Dublin hosted the 5th UCLG Culture Summit, titled "Culture. Future. Goal. We Act to Bring Local Voices to Global Tables."

The Summit highlighted the critical role of culture in the development of sustainable cities and encouraged the exchange of experiences and innovative practices among cities globally. The summit's agenda focused on examining the relationship between cultural policies and the climate crisis, the intersection of culture and gender equality, and the importance of cultural rights in addressing increasing societal disparities.

Discussions at the summit also covered the "Culture Goal" proposition, advocated by the #culture2030goal global campaign, No Future Without Culture,  and recognized in the final declaration of UNESCO’s Mondiacult 2022 Conference on cultural policies and sustainable development.
