Event Summary
131 participants from 33 countries met online at the Digital Citymakers Summit held on March 25, 2021.
The event’s opening address was given by Barbara Berninger, Metropolis Regional Secretary Europe, use platform and Prof. Paul James, Institute for Culture and Society, Western Sydney University, use platform.
Following this introduction, Dr. Oliver Weigel, Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community, Germany delivered the keynote address - ‘The New Leipzig Charter: The Transformative Power of Cities for the Common Good’. Dr Weigel provided insights on the two-year long process of drafting an agreement among European ministers responsible for urban matters that defines cities as agents for the common good. A lively Q&A session moderated by Prof. Paul James followed.
Following on from this, seven network sessions hosted by Metropolis and the use platform's institutional partners further explored the topic of justice and community-oriented urban development by presenting practical examples.
