Guangzhou Award for Urban Innovation

Co-sponsored by Metropolis, UCLG and the City of Guangzhou, the Guangzhou Award identifies, appreciates and applauds social, economic and environmental innovation in cities and regions. In doing so, the award supports the contributions made by innovation to the advances in residents’ prosperity and quality of life.

On its fifth anniversary, the Guangzhou Award will focus on how urban innovation initiatives support the localization of the SDGs and the New Urban Agenda (NUA).

Up to 15 shortlisted cities and up to 30 deserving cities will be discerned and selected by the Technical Committee.

• 2 representatives of each of the 15 shortlisted cities will be invited to share lessons learned at the International Seminar on Learning from Urban Innovation held in October 2020 in Guangzhou under the framework of the “Global Mayors Forum 2020, XIII METROPOLIS World Congress 2020, UCLG World Council Meetings 2020 & 2020 Guangzhou Award”
• Up to 5 winners among the shortlisted cities will be selected by the Jury and each will be granted US$ 20,000, a trophy and a commemorative certificate; shortlisted cities that are not among the winners will be granted Medals of Honour.

Applicants making submissions before the early bird deadline (1st June 2020) have the opportunity to receive feedback and advice on how to improving the applications. The final submission deadline for all applicants is 23:59:59 on 1st July 2020 (UTC:+8:00).
