Adaptation Gap Report 2024

© 2024 United Nations Environment Programme

The UN environment programme has published its latest Adaptation Gap Report, which sounds a critical alarm about climate change's escalating impacts on vulnerable populations. While international adaptation financing has increased to US$28 billion in 2022, this falls dramatically short of the estimated US$187-359 billion needed annually. The report urges nations to dramatically accelerate climate adaptation efforts, particularly by committing to innovative financing strategies, strengthening capacity building, and developing more anticipatory and transformational approaches to climate resilience. With the world potentially facing a temperature rise of 2.6-3.1°C this century, urgent and coordinated global action is essential to protect the most vulnerable communities.
