World Metropolitan Day also marks the anniversary of the Montréal Declaration on Metropolitan Areas (2015)– a commitment by urban governments to work together to build more inclusive and interdependent metropolitan areas in addition to mechanisms for implementation. UN-Habitat and Metropolis co-host this year’s World Metropolitan Day activities and invite you to participate in a variety of workshops, online panels and on social media that will culminate in the  virtual event “Metropolises facing the pandemic, a worldwide commemoration”. These events offer spaces for re-thinking the role of metropolitan governance in emergency situations and for sharing and discussing approaches that can accelerate recovery from the current COVID-10 emergency crisis.

Join in these conversations with citymakers from metropolises around the world to discuss the opportunities that, despite the hardships and frustrations caused by the pandemic, offer pathways towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Join use in supporting the work of municipal governments by sharing your local experience with our global audience of citymakers.
