International Day of Persons with Disabilities is held on 3 December each year. The annual observance was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3. The Day aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions.
Disability inclusion is an essential condition to upholding human rights, sustainable development, and peace and security. It is also central to the promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to leave no one behind.
The theme for IDPWD 2023 is United in action to rescue and achieve the SDGs for, with and by persons with disabilities.
