Soumaya Majdoub is the founder of Urbanpreneurs. Her passion for innovation at the intersection of urbanism, (tech) entrepreneurship and migration led to the creation of this knowledge and research lab.
The aim is to share knowledge, build lasting alliances and facilitate the creation of innovative, sustainable business solutions to important urban problems. Urbanpreneurs seeks to incubate urban innovation to produce tangible benefits for urban communities. Entrepreneurship focused on addressing quality of life in cities !
Soumaya is a serial entrepreneur, strategy consultant, trainer and project manager. Her work as a consultant for various companies, startup incubators, organizations and government agencies in Belgium and abroad have motivated her to integrate principles and methodologies from the startup world in formulating responses to social challenges. She is also an Economic Columnist at LN24, a national TV News Channel.
She has a MSc in Media, Democracy & Journalism at the Free University of Brussels (VUB) and a degree in Communication and International Politics at the University of Antwerp.
Currently she is in addition to these activities a PhD Researcher. Her doctoral research project is about migration and Malthusian thinking. This research project fits in the broader interdisciplinary research project ‘Cities & Newcomers’ at the VUB. The focus of this project lies on the relationship between perceived population growth and pressure, (economic) development and international migrations on the one hand and the political and public discourse about migration on the other.
