Dr. Ing. Peter Gotsch is an urban researcher, planning professional and registered architect with a strong focus on sustainable and resilient metropolitan development, new planning practices and urban policy formulation.

He has a comprehensive work experience in Indonesia, India, Brazil and South Africa and also in Germany and the EU. Dr. Gotsch served as an expert for bilateral and multinational organisations such as GIZ, UN-Habitat, the World Bank and Misereor, among others, and he has participated in more than 30 international missions with a focus on urban development and/or policy formulation with a focus on sustainability, social cohesion, gender equality and quality of life. He has also contributed to the formulation of spatial development policies in South Africa and in the Gulf region with a significant focus on presenting lessons learnt from the EU.

His 15-year career, includes innovative urban research at Columbia University in New York (USA), the IIT Roorkee (India), the Universitas Tarumanagara Jakarta (Indonesia), the Pontivical University in Curitiba (Brazil), or the the TU-Darmstadt (Germany). His research portfolio includes projects on the sustainable growth of Megacity regions (i.e. Hyderabad in India) and on the role of new urban stakeholders from civil society and the private sector, focusing strongly on the nexus between research and policy. Furthermore Dr. Gotsch is co-editor of the TRIALOG journal, and a former coordinator of the Network-Association of European Researchers on Urbanisation in the South.
